Tarmac care

Customers DIY attempt

We were asked to help the homeowner on this 3 year old tarmac clean in Ilkley. They had tried to clean it with their domestic pressure washer but found it was churning up the surface , and also it would have taken them all week to complete.  It is in relatively good condition but as it’s in an exposed area – moss and algae build up is an ongoing problem. The great thing is they did not allow the moss to build up. This will prolong the life of their tarmac drive ( which did cost a lot to install ). It’s a  much easier job for us when only algae has formed as oppose to thick clumps of moss with its roots eating into the tarmac surface.
After a good thorough sweep and shovel up rubbish , then we gave it a light rinse with a pressure washer. We don’t need to worry about blasting away the green – the spray treatment will do that job. This part is just preparation.
The important part is the application of the high purity biocide. We use Algoclear Pro. This is a specialty designed product to control biofilm on hard surfaces. It will only take effect on organic matter and it will not bleach or corrode the tarmac in any way. We saturated the whole drive with Algoclear Pro and let it soak in. No need to rinse off after – just leave the weather to wash away what’s left of the  dead matter.
Tarmac can be look great new but it can be a troublesome surface to keep clear of moss – if left it will soon deteriorate. An annual spray of agoclear pro keep on top of things here
